The Number One Selling Brand of Chain Saws

For over 80 years, STIHL has been working to improve product performance, quality and excellence, and has presented innovation after innovation. Today the STIHL chain saws are the number one selling brand worldwide. STIHL runs the XML authoring and content management system TIM by Fischer Computertechnik for the generation of their operating manuals.

Millions of Manuals

Millions of operating manuals per year, 38 languages, a steadily increasing range of STIHL products, numerous adaptations and changes of operating manuals for every region - TIM meets these high requirements. The technical writers create the XML modules in FrameMaker® and save them in the XML information pool of TIM for reuse. With TIM InfoManager the operating manuals are generated from XML modules on the basis of a document structure. Once all nodes in the document structure have been filled and the document has been released it will be published in FrameMaker®; finishing of the documents created this way is not necessary.

Integration into SAP

By means of a clearly defined workflow TIM facilitates the release process, the PDF generation and manages the released documents. Via a defined interface the released documents will automatically be made available for SAP.

Manuals for Customers World-Wide

STIHL operating manuals are published with TIM in 38 languages, as well in Chinese and Japanese. TIM organizes the translated text modules, only new and changed modules need to be translated. Translation service providers worldwide are translating these with various translation memory systems, the translated XML modules are saved in TIM.
