Instead of Word®, Herrenknecht is today using the XML content management system TIM by Fischer Computertechnik with structured FrameMaker® for the generation of their operating manuals. Company-wide 15 technical writers create operating manuals structured and modularized in FrameMaker®. They use XML modules from the XML information pool in TIM and save them in TIM for reuse. The document-oriented working method with TIM Classic and WYSIWYG allows making quick layout changes.
Martin Zink, editorial department at Herrenknecht, is sure of having made the right choice with TIM. „By using TIM the time for the creation of publications has nearly halved. Saving time has gained more and more importance due to an increasing number of publications. The time we are saving now, can be used for improving our existing publications."
The operating manuals are created in German and translated into English, Spanish, French, Italian and Russian, further languages are to be added soon. Once all proof and release processes have been completed TIM creates a PDF document for printing.
