Förster-Technik uses the XML authoring and content management system TIM-RS for generating operating manuals and service information. Technical writers create structured and modularized documents in FrameMaker. TIM-RS manages the XML modules, documents and graphics in the XML information pool. Technical writers quickly retrieve documents and modules for reuse, using individually designed search cascades and clearly defined metadata.
TIM-RS organizes language variants in 15 languages with the integrated translation management, and delivers the pre-translation. Only modules that still need to be translated are exported to the Translation Memory System Transit (STAR) in XML format and passed to an external translation service provider. The translated modules are saved in TIM-RS.
Due to modularization and the pre-translation in TIM-RS Förster-Technik has achieved savings of approx. 30 to 50 percent in working time compared to using an unstructured method. Axel Schachermeier, Technical Writer at Förster-Technik: „The XML content management system TIM-RS has reeducated us away from the „creative workshop", to a structured and disciplined working method."
